Buckhorn – Friday

Happy Friday!

What a week it has been?! Today, all of our participants headed out for their final day of work in this community. After working hard all week here in Buckhorn, all of the 12 squads completed their work for the week! All of the roofs were finished, walls were complete, and ministry sites were finished.

What a great joy it has been to serve this community and our Lord! Lives will be forever impacted because of our participants heart to serve and step outside of their comfort zone!

Tonight, our worship service looked a little different. We closed out the week in a special way. All of our friends from Dessy Scott’s Children Home and Buckhorn children joined us once again. This week the cabins had been having the Olympics. So tonight, awards were given out to the campers! They all were so excited to receive a “medal” or a “trophy” in front of all of us. We also held an auction where we auctioned off items created by the campers to go toward our offering this year!

Finally, speaker Steve reminded us just as Paul served others in Acts 9, we are too called to serve others. We are also not only called to serve, but serve with others.

It has been an amazing week here in Buckhorn, KY. We had a great group of teenagers and adults come together from many states to serve for one greater purpose!

Thank you so much for praying for all of us this week and joined us on this journey!

Buckhorn – Thursday

Happy Thursday!

We had another great day here in the Buckhorn community! Our squads are working hard to finish out the week strong. The work our squads have been doing this week is incredible and is definitely impacting this unique community!

Tonight in worship, our friends from Buckhorn and Dessy Scott joined us once again! It is so awesome to see them worshipping with us. Steve shared a message on Acts 9:20-22, and talked about how we all go through struggles, Christian or not. He reminded us that when Paul gave his life to Christ, his struggles did not necessarily go away. Sometimes it is out of our pain that we learn God’s grace and love.

As we are wrapping up the project, please continue to pray for our participants and every else involved in this project. Feel free to send your friends and family ServeMail for one last time!

Buckhorn – Wednesday

Happy Wednesday!

This morning, our participants headed out to their sites for just a half day of work. Another day of work is done and completed with just two more full days to complete our projects!

Today was a half day for everyone, so after the squads ate lunch they headed back to the school to get ready to head out with their church group for a night of fun! Some groups went hiking and kayaking, while others headed to Lexington, KY and did escape rooms and laser tag.

A half day was much needed for our hard working participants. They now are ready to finish out the week strong serving this special community of Buckhorn!

Please continue to prayer for our participants and this community as we finish out this week! Also, send your friends and family an encouraging note through ServeMail.

Buckhorn – Tuesday

Happy Tuesday!

This morning our participants headed out to their worksites. Despite the rain, every one was excited and eager to head out for another day of work. Our squads are working hard to get everything done by the end of the week!

We are thankful for the hearts of our participants here. They are so willing to serve this special community!

Tonight, we had our Concert of Prayer. What a special night! We traveled to the Buckhorn Presbyterian Church to join together in worship, prayer, and scripture. This church was a beautiful place to worship. The governor of Kentucky once referred to this church as Holy Ground and it is found on the historical registry. The Lord’s present was felt in this place and lives were moved.

Please continue to prayer for our participants, the children we are serving, and everyone that is involved in allowing this project to happen. We are looking forward to our Wednesday afternoon off to relax and hang with our church groups!

Don’t forget to send your family and friends ServeMail to encourage them and show them love!

Buckhorn – Monday

Happy Monday!

Our participants woke up bright and early this morning ready to head to their construction and ministry sites for the first time! Here in Buckhorn, we are working with the Buckhorn Children & Family Services repairing the cabins that their children live in and ministering to the children that live there through camp-like activities. You can learn more about the Buckhorn Children & Family Services by clicking here. This afternoon, the participants returned back to the school this afternoon with some awesome stories from just their first day on the job!

Our worship service tonight was special. The children joined us in our worship service and all of the participants welcomed them with open arms. Steve’s message was about when the Prodigal Son returned back home to his father and his father welcomed him with open arms. He reminded us that there is never a time when we return home to God and he does not open us with open arms and heart. Every time you come back to God, He embraces you.

Following our worship service, we joined our new friends from the Children’s Home and had an ice cream party!

Buckhorn – Sunday

Happy Sunday!

The first full day of the project has come to an end! Today our squads met for the first time and then headed out to local churches in the area to worship and fellowship. The participants came back bonding with their new friends!

Tonight before worship, a baptism took place. All of the participants walked to the church at the head of the road to witness a member of our cooking staff get baptized. This lady had attended a Mission Serve project two years ago and accepted Jesus into her life. The week before this project in Buckhorn, she contacted our speaker, Steve, letting him know she was ready to be baptized. Tonight, she professed her faith and went from death to life. What a great kick off for our worship tonight!

Once we returned back to the school, we continued our worship. Our message tonight continued in Acts 9:6-17 where Steve preached on obedience. Just as Jesus gave the invitation to Saul to follow him down into the city, Jesus also offers us the obedience to follow him. He challenged us to be obedient to the Lord’s plan for our life. When God calls us, He wants complete obedience from us to follow him.

We are so excited to see how God works and moves through our Mission Serve participants this week. Please continue to pray for our participants and the people they will be coming in contact with everyday in their construction sites and ministry sites! As always, send your friends and family a note through our ServeMail!

Buckhorn – Saturday

Happy Saturday!

Today, we kicked off the first day of what will be a great week! All seven of our churches arrived safely from Kentucky, Georgia, South Carolina, and Alabama. Everyone arrived excited and ready to spend the week serving in the Buckhorn community in construction and ministry.

We had an awesome first night of worship led by our band from North River Baptist Church and our speaker, Steve Brown. Our message tonight came from Acts 9:1-5. As Saul was restored when he encountered Jesus in Damascus, we have the ability to also be restored. Steve taught us that the encounter of God is the beginning of restoration, which is the beginning of God showing you what more he has for your life. He challenged all of the participants to go where no one else will go to further the Gospel.

After worship, our participants learned which squads they are on. All of the participants are excited and eager to meet their squads tomorrow morning.

We are so excited for an new day tomorrow to visit local churches, bond with participants, and worship. You can send your friends and family a ServeMail to show them that your are thinking of them!

Our youth really enjoyed the Buckhorn Mission Serve Project because they not only got to be the hands and feet of Jesus as they repaired the buildings at the Buckhorn Children’s Home, but they also got a glimpse into the world of those children who have greatly suffered and are in desperate need of love and grace.
