MONROE BLOG

Monroe – Friday

Happy Friday!

It has been a long week and this project is finally coming to a close. God has worked in amazing ways through all of the participants. We had eight squads, and all eight were able to finish up their projects. We had amazing sponsors who helped fund the work on these homes and it was thanks to them we were able to get materials and other necessary items to help finish up these homes.

Tonight, we had a closing celebration that all of our homeowners and participants attended. We were able to recognize each individual squad, along with group leaders, construction captains, and other members who were a big part of making this project week run so smoothly! Kona Ice also came and participants were able to enjoy slushies on them! Following this, we attended worship where our speaker Jeremy wrapped up this week talking about Luke 19 and what kind of faithfulness we are going to have in the work for our kingdom as we leave this week.

We thank everyone for continuing to pray for all of the participants and homeowners this week and we ask that you be with them as they head home tomorrow morning. It was an amazing project week and we are blessed to have been able to serve in Monroe!

Monroe – Thursday

Happy Thursday everyone!!

What an awesome day we have had here in Monroe, North Carolina. Squads headed out bright and early this morning to continue working on projects after having a great afternoon off and exploring the city.

The projects are coming along great except for a few small issues they’ve run into here and there and it looks as though everyone will be finishing up by the end of the day tomorrow.

Tonight, our speaker Jeremy read from the books Acts 9:17-22. This talked about when Saul’s scales were removed from his eyes. He talked about Saul preaching that Jesus is the son of God, and how he begins to grow more and more powerful. By the end, Saul was doing the complete opposite of where he started and was able to see that Jesus is the son of God. This allows us to see that change is possible it is just willing to submit to it.

Tomorrow, squads will head out for their last day of work on their sites and hopefully finish up what they’ve been working so hard on this week! As we are wrapping up this weeks project, please continue to pray for our participants and every else who has played a part in helping this week run smoothly.

Monroe – Wednesday

Happy Wednesday!!

It has been an amazing day here in Monroe!! The squads went out for a half-day at work and headed back to campus around 10 a.m. The City Council of Monroe held a special meeting this afternoon for the entire project and all of the companies/families that have sponsored our project. The mayor spoke and individually thanked each company and presented each job site to the council members explaining what was being done by the crews this week. We then enjoyed a lunch that was provided by the City Council from The Smoke Pit Restaurant, a BBQ chain here in North Carolina.

This afternoon, churches left to enjoy their afternoon off and explore the city of Monroe. Some would be going to a near-by amusement park, others were going bowling, to the movies, or near-by hiking trails.

We are excited to continue working tomorrow and Friday and are looking forward to seeing the final results of each job site!

Please continue to keep participants, homeowners, and everyone we have/will come in contact with this week in your prayers! Don’t forget to send encouraging notes to your family and friends through ServeMail!

Monroe – Tuesday

Happy Tuesday!

We had an an awesome day here in Monroe! Squads were able to accomplish a lot and it looks like almost everyone is on track to be finished by Friday if not sooner! Tomorrow, they will have a well deserved half-day of work and get to spend the afternoon with their churches doing activities off campus.

Tonight, we had a special worship known as the concert of prayer. Our speaker, Jeremy, lead our participants in various prayer exercises and worship. God’s presence was seen moving through everyone as he continued to impact each participant tonight. During the concert, participants were asked to write thank you’s to the Lord on Post-It notes and following the end of service, walk to place them on the windows on the front of the church to be displayed.

We ask that you continue to pray for everyone at the project and their spiritual relationship with God.

Monroe – Monday

Happy Monday!

It’s been an awesome day today in Monroe, North Carolina!

We started the day off by taking group photos then sending squads off to their work sites for the day. It was a hot day but our squads have already made great progress, and are well on their way to completing their job sites by Friday!

Tonight in worship, Jeremy spoke about remembering that God is our authority. He is the Lord and he gets to determine what is or isn’t going to be done. Our job, as his children, is to obey. Jeremy read from Acts 9: 1-17 and reminded everyone that if we are going to follow God, we need to give up our own will and take up His. We must submit and obey to Him. We see that the Lords desire for us is obedience throughout the Old and New Testament.

Please continue to be in prayer for our participants, homeowners, staff, and coordinators as they work tomorrow.

Don’t forget to send your friends and family encouraging notes through ServeMail!

Monroe – Sunday

Happy Sunday everyone!

We’ve had an awesome day here in Monroe, North Carolina. All ten of our churches arrived safely and are pumped for this upcoming week!

This evening we kicked off with Opening Celebration where participants got to enjoy games with our band to get to know each other better and help get them excited and prepared for this week.

Tonight, during our time of worship, we began by singing several songs. Our speaker, Jeremy Myers, read from the book of Acts 9: 1-5. He talked about Saul’s conversion and how God transformed his life and what ways he used them.

Later tonight, our participants met with their squads and had their first squad meeting of the week. During this time, they were assigned positions such as Reporter, Break Master, Medic, and Chaplain. They then attended squad position training where they learned how to fulfill the duties of their roles.

We can’t wait to see what God has in store for everyone this week, and what He is going to do through us in Monroe. Please continue to pray for our participants and everyone they will be coming in contact with on their construction sites!

As always, make sure to send your friends and family a note through our ServeMail!
