Walterboro – Friday

It’s Finally Friday from Walterboro!

Today was the last day of our work week. All of our worksites were completed today and we are so proud of the hard work that each of our participants were able to accomplish this week! This evening, a large number of our homeowners joined us for supper and worship. It was so nice seeing them off of the worksite and each squad was super excited to be able to break bread and worship the Lord with their new friends.

Tonight, we recognized all of the people who helped make this project happen. We are so very appreciative to our Coordinators, Cooking Team, Supervisors, Volunteers, Construction Captains, Squad Leaders, Runners, Speaker, and Band! After recognize our awesome team, Speaker Trey spoke about carrying our love and service home with us. He wanted us to remember to constantly keep God in our hearts and actions. It was a great message!

We said our goodbyes and shed a few tears tonight as we pack up to leave tomorrow. We pray that each youth group had a great time and safe travels. Thank you so much for keeping our participants in your prayers this week. We truly could not have done this without all of your support!

Have a blessed summer!

Walterboro – Thursday

Happy, happy Thursday!

Today, our squads headed back out to sites after a restful and fun afternoon off. The weather was pretty hot today with the sun shining down, but everyone drank water, stayed hydrated, and kept up a positive attitude.

Tonight, the band and speaker lead a powerful and emotional Concert of Prayer. This service is a time of prayer, worship, and inward reflection of the week and one’s walk with Christ. This service is a beautiful time where God’s presence is truly felt and the atmosphere is totally focused on God. It’s amazing to what God has put on the hearts and minds of participants during this time. We also collected offering tonight, in which we received over $1,800 to put towards Hurricane Relief in Puerto Rico. We praise God for this amazing amount to be put to His work.

Tomorrow, the squads head out for their last day of work and to finish up their projects. It’s amazing to see the work that God has done this week! Be sure to send a final word of encouragement to your participants through ServeMail!

Always thankful,

Jenna and Sam

Walterboro – Wednesday

Happy Wednesday!

Today, our squads got up and worked on their construction sites for half a day. It was a beautiful day in Walterboro with the sunny shining and lower temperatures. The crews were able to still get a lot of work done and continued to share the gospel with the homeowners and other residents.

After returning from sites, the squads have the afternoon off to go explore Walterboro and the surrounding area. Some churches visited the downtown Charleston and others went to the Edisto Beach. All the participants had fun on their half day and retuned to the beach safe and sound. Thank God for the safe travels and full smiles.

Tomorrow, the squad are ready to return to their sites for another great day of work! Be sure to send them encouragement through ServeMail!

Walterboro – Tuesday

It’s Terrific Tuesday!

This morning, our squads went out to work on their houses bright and early. They were eager to keep working and making a difference. The squads continued to work on the 13 houses and 3 community sites and build relationships with the homeowners. The Fire and Rescue Team in Walterboro also delivered popsicles to the sites today. It started to rain in the afternoon and the crews returned a little earlier, getting some expected but appreciated rest.

After dinner, we were treated to a guest speaker, Chris Wells. Chris spoke about making time alone with God a priority, living what we say we believe, and sharing our faith. It was a fun, but deep message to hear. Later, the participants were treated to a night of fun and games and youth groups from local churches joined in the fun. The kids played cornhole and ultimate frisbee, had an obstacle course, had archery lessons, and had the chance to dunk our own summer staffer, Sam in a dunk tank. There was also shaved ice and cotton candy served by Squealin’ Sow Catering. It was an amazing night and the participants had so much fun.

Tomorrow, the squads have a half day. They will work on houses in the morning and have the afternoon off to enjoy Charleston and Edisto Beach and other local sites. Pray for safe travels and fun adventures!

Make sure to keep support everyone at the project by sending them ServeMail. Participants and leaders alike love to see a sweet message of support!

Walterboro – Monday

Happy Monday!

Today, the participants were up bright and early to start their days working on homes in the Walterboro area.  There are sixteen squads this week: one of the squads are working on a paint job, two squad are working on roofing projects, nine squads are building wheelchair ramps, and three squads are doing Backyard Bible Clubs and yard work. All of the squads were very productive and came back to the church tired, but safe and smiling! Be sure to support your participant by sending them ServeMail!

After the squads rested and cleaned up, we all gathered together for a time of worship. Tonight, Pastor Trey read from Matthew 14:22-33. He talked about Peter walking on water and getting out of our comfort zones. We cannot let our comfort zones define our relationship with God. His message was a great reminder to start the work week.

After worship, our students had great talks in their youth group devotional time and played games in the fellowship hall and gym. It is really cool to see new friendships form and grow in this environment. Tomorrow, the squads head back out to the sites and are ready to continue to serve!

Movin’ along,

Jenna & Sam

Walterboro – Sunday

Welcome back!

It is Sunday in Walterboro and we are already having a blast!  We started off the day by attending 18 local churches in the surrounding area. The community has been extremely supportive and welcoming.  Each squad was served a delicious meal, the vast majority being fried chicken, and encouraged by how dedicated these churches are to the mission we are carrying out this week. These churches will also be delivering lunches to the squads each day. We are so grateful!

This afternoon consisted of many important activities. After church, the squads visited their worksites and met a few of their homeowners. It was a great bonding experience for all of the participants.

In the evening, Speaker Trey centered his message around Galatians 5:13-14 and challenged us by asking us how we will use the freedom that we have in Christ.  This week, we have the perfect opportunity to love and serve others and he ended our time together by daring us to do so. Trey set a great example by washing the feet of one of the participants from his home church. Later, participants were asked to write on a large paper their goals for the week and what they want to see God do.

We finished the evening with lots of basketball and volleyball being played in the gym, devotions with church groups, and much action at the Mission Serve promo table. The real work begins tomorrow and we are thrilled.

Please continue to pray for our project that everyone will be safe and that we all share the love of Christ this week with the community.

Also, don’t forget to write ServeMail to out participants.

Sending love,
Jenna & Sam

Walterboro – Saturday

It’s Start Day and Super Saturday in Walterboro!

We are so excited to be here in Walterboro, SC serving this week! Today, we had over 200 participants from 7 different churches, ranging across Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Florida. They were each bursting with energy and joy for the week ahead.

During orientation, the students played several amusing games with the band and speaker. It was so exciting to see everyone laughing and having fun while also meeting new people.

During worship, our speaker, Trey Shealy, gave a great first message about following Christ and giving our all for him. He also reminded participants of their role here, to serve others and to share Christ.

Today was full of preparation and eagerness from students and leaders alike. We look forward to having a fantastic week and ask that you pray for safety and diligence throughout this project.

Check in here, every day, for an update on how all your friends and family are doing in Walterboro. Also, be sure to encourage your participants by sending lots of ServeMail.

We look forward to sharing a great week with you!

Jenna and Sam
