Greetings from the Nation’s Capital!
Today was the start of the Washington D.C. project with all of our churches arriving safely to registration and all of the participants eager to get to work. After getting nice and cozy into their rooms, the youth got a chance to play some games with the band and competed for Starbucks, Subway, and Shoney’s gift cards while the adults had their opening meeting. The participants went wild with a rousing game of “Gorilla, Man, Gun” and the band rocked the room by playing some awesome songs. After the opening kickoff the participants were treated to a pizza dinner.
The worship tonight was great! There is something about the first night of worship that always brings a special atmosphere. Six churches from all across the US who are coming together to worship the Lord is a special sight. Eric, our worship speaker for the week, brought an inspiring message to the churches, and encouraged the participants for their upcoming work week.
Once worship was over, the participants raced to the dining area to see which squad they would be apart of for this week. The excitement continued as they got to meet their squad leaders, construction captains, and the rest of their squad members. If the energy in the room is any indication on how the week will be, the participants and group leaders alike are in for a treat.
Well, we’ve had a full day here in D.C, now all of the participants are all snug in their beds, and dreams of squad shenanigans dance in their heads. In other words, that’s all for today! We are looking forward to a great week!
